Assists with the day-to-day monitoring and operation of equipment,
routine lab tests, and minor maintenance activities at the main
treatment plant and in the collection system. Primary
Duties/Responsibilities: Operates equipment manually and through
instrument panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic
control units in an assigned area. Performs field tests (chemical,
physical, and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for
process and odor control units or alter unit processes. Monitors
and observes operating conditions; records observations and data in
area shift log. Follows process control procedures for assigned
areas; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to
supervisor. Prepares chemical solutions, and monitors process
chemical supplies and reorders chemicals as directed by management.
Collect samples of wastewater, sludge, and gases according at the
facility, in the collection system, and at industrial sites in the
system according to schedule; and service related sampling
equipment. Performs routine instrument calibration for portable
meters and lab tests for process control, including but not limited
to, suspended solids, pH, temperature, chlorine residuals, D.O. and
BODs. Performs minor maintenance including routine preventive
maintenance and repair including; lubrication, minor adjustments,
cleaning and minor painting. Operates vehicles and equipment for
facility operational and maintenance purposes. Assures work is
performed in a safe and professional manner by following
established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.
Perform all duties in accordance with Earth Tech Standards.
Performs cleanup and housekeeping, grounds keeping, and painting
tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
Inform management of staffing changes to insure staffing coverage.
Take action as directed by management. Performs other related
duties as needed. Functional and technical direction*, verbal and
written instructions from the Operations Specialist II or III;
instruction and supervision from the Operations Manager. Work
Environment: Working in outside and inside environments with noise
and safe temperatures and climatic conditions and must be able to
work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: High School
Diploma/GED is required. One year of experience in a working
wastewater treatment facility or any equivalent combination of
education and experience; with a thorough working knowledge of
wastewater treatment operational standards, procedures, and
techniques preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must demonstrate
the ability to safely perform required work for buoy maintenance.
Must be orientated and familiar with operation of boat, radio, fire
extinguisher, and life saving devices used in an emergency. Must
demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process
control, maintenance, and operations tracking. Requires basic math,
reading, scientific skills; ability to communicate clearly both
verbally and in writing; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to
read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales,
panels, computer consoles, and other equipment. Must have the
ability to establish effective working relationships with other
employees. Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written
instructions. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Vo-Tech
training is preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and a
safe driving record in accordance with Earth Tech Standards and
within Health and Safety Policies and procedures. Achieve and
maintain the appropriate level of water/wastewater operator's
license (Michigan Operator "D") prior to appointment to Operations
Specialist I. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform tasks
walking (75%) for more than three miles and standing (25%) per
shift. Work positions including climbing stairs (60%), squatting,
and working with hands extended above head 18 inches (25%), and 30
inches in front of body (10%). Must be able to lift and carry up to
60 pounds while walking distances of 10 feet. Safely work on
ladders, catwalks and supports at heights in excess of 50 feet.
Safely enter and inspect manholes, wells and other confined spaces
up to approximately 50 feet deep. Safely handle bags of chemicals
up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. Additional Information
