Job Description:
SUMMARY:
Our Utilimaster division is looking for a Senior Product Design
Engineer to join our Advanced Engineering team for new product
development. The Senior Product Design Engineer will mentor
designers and engineers and be responsible for providing timely,
accurate, and cost-effective designs for use in new vehicles and
platforms.
Additionally, you will also be expected to collaborate with our
advanced engineering team to develop solutions for a variety of
parts that meet internal and external customer requirements,
perform for the desired warranty period, and comply with all
applicable regulatory requirements.
Additionally, you will play an integral role in developing a
completely new light weight body design for an electric class 3
walk in van. You will also be accountable for overseeing product
and mechanical projects through design, fabrication, evaluation,
and documentation/reporting phases.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
--- Key individual contributor for product/mechanical projects
through design, fabrication, evaluation, and
documentation/reporting phases
--- Apply a functional knowledge of mechanical engineering
principles, materials, structural mechanics and design for
manufacturability and reliability towards achieving user
requirements and design specifications
--- Support transfer to manufacturing process for pre-production
prototypes
--- Optimize design trade-offs for functionality, usability, cost,
and risk with input from key stakeholders both inside and outside
of the company
--- Provide guidance for ongoing support for pipeline products and
commercial systems
--- Author documentation to support design and risk management
activities
--- Provide prototyping support for early-stage development work on
a project basis
--- Leading and conducting technical investigations, identifying
root cause, conducting investigational test protocols, implementing
corrective actions, and developing investigation report
--- Develop tests and methods, write, and perform test protocols,
write reports, and contribute to the generation of intellectual
property
--- Embrace and support company corporate policies and
procedures
--- Be able to solve manufacturing and assembly problems utilizing
problem solving techniques and methodologies
--- Work collaboratively with other engineers, production
personnel, purchasing personnel, and customers to create optimal
solutions to support the business
--- Demonstrate a desire to support engineering's customers
(production, sales, purchasing teams, etc.)
--- Create Engineering tree (task list) to comply with customer /
vehicle specifications
--- Create solids model to correspond with engineering tree
--- Pull ECN numbers and start the ECN process, corresponding with
Engineering tree
--- Determine effectiveness of the engineering solutions,
understanding un-intended consequences to manufacturing processes,
tooling, and option capability
--- Coordinate effective date of engineering solution
--- Initiate changes to drawings, solids models and bills of
material
--- Effectively utilize Aurora (corporate software) to research
product/spec history and structure, where used on component parts,
and product compatibility
--- Provide engineering solutions that maximize financial
profitability
QUALIFICATIONS:
--- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related
engineering discipline
--- Minimum 5 years' experience Product Design Engineering
solutions
--- Proven track record in design for manufacture and transfer to
manufacture, with strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques, and
materials
--- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication
skills
--- Detail oriented and highly organized
--- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, learn
quickly, and take on responsibilities outside of this scope of
work, as necessary
--- Must be resilient and focused with a knack for navigating
complex and changing environment
--- Excellent SOLIDWORKS skills (and will consider candidates
proficient in CATIA or UG/ NX)
--- Understand the metal fabrication, forming, tolerances and
capabilities
--- Experience with aluminum extrusions, aluminum castings, plastic
injection moldings, vacuum forming, and fiberglass moldings
--- Understand extrusion process
--- Understand vehicle design, testing and certification
process
--- ANSI-Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerance
--- Proficiency in PC based word processing and spreadsheets
--- Working knowledge of FMVSS regulatory requirements for delivery
vehicles
--- Additional skills in FMEA, FEA, CFD, Lean/Sigma, DFSS would be
a plus
